Identity 2013: Dutch-Russian Bilateral Year from Lava on Vimeo.
This video, shown on the homepage of the website we designed for NLRF 2013, was made to explain the history of the Dutch-Russian trade relations, and to inspire future business cooperation.
The underlying story of the identity design is the that of Tsar Peter the Great.
Peter the Great was the first Russian tsar who travelled outside the borders of his empire. During one of his trade missions his ship also passed the Netherlands. Rumor has it that he picked up a Dutch flag from the water and took it to Russia and used for the Russian flag. This explains the fact that the flags are almost the same. The flags have the same colourplanes: red, blue and white, only the sequence varies. The colours have been cut and re-devided into a new flag.
The principle of ‘cutting’ is the basis of the style that represents both Russia and the Netherlands, and is applicable to all kinds of items. The images of the billboards are sketchdesigns.
The website is very important in the communication in the run-up to the NLRF year in 2013. The website inspires and stimulates coöperations between Russia and the Netherlands. Together with Tam Tam we developed the 'supply and demand' page, that provides the possibility to exchange services, and by doing that contributing to the growth and the meaning of the year.
The e-newsletter obviously is part of the communication towards the year 2013 too.
