innl.nl wins Best of Web

During the Museums and the Web conference in Philidaphia www.innl.nl won the innovation award. Lava designed this online portal for the National History Museum. Mediamatic was responsible for the realisation.

Other winners of this years’ BoW Award are, amongst others, the Museum of Modern Art, The British Museum and Tate.

The National History Museum has a collection that only exists online.

The INNL network is a place for Dutch people to write their own history. Anyone can create a profile and contribute to the collective experience of Dutch cultural heritage. The sites support contributions in various forms: stories, audio clips, photographs and film. Users can add geographical, chronological and thematic information to their contributions. Thus events are linked to the location in which they occurred, the thematically related stories and the historical relationship between events are displayed.

Visitors to a site within the INNL network can log in with a profile and contribute to each site. For example, users can tell their stories on the New Land Heritage site and illustrate it with photos from the database of innl.nl. And, users on the Jewish Community Memorial can tag a photo on the Buurtwinkel site.

INNL The network is an example of a Web 3.0 application. Web 3.0, also called the semantic web, refers to the trend in Internet applications that are well structured, have meta-data and can easily be integrated with one another.

The identity of INNL was created by Lava. The design of inn.nl was quite a challenge, a rewarding challenge we might add!
